Humanin is a genuine mitochondrial-derived peptide whose levels relate to age in human samples, per systematic review. Protective effects come from animal and laboratory work. One meta-analysis reported humanin promoting tumour progression in an experimental cancer model, which belongs alongside the optimistic framing.
